A coroner has asked New Zealand police to investigate the death of a 12-year-old girl who collapsed while running in an Auckland park on Thursday.
While the young girl’s identity hasn’t been released, she was a Grade 8 student at Baradene College of the Sacred Heart in Auckland.
According to reports, the incident took place after school hours and she passed away later that evening at the hospital.
Preliminary investigations indicate the child experienced “some sort of medical event” while running.
“Police were made aware of the girl’s death after she’d passed away in hospital,” a police spokesperson told Stuff on Sunday.
“We were not called to anything earlier.”
